Agartala, 25th June 2026: Serious allegations have emerged regarding the quality of food supplies distributed at the Hridaypara Anganwadi Centre under Fatikchhara Gram Panchayat in Mohanpur Block. Beneficiaries and guardians expressed outrage after discovering insects in rice and lentils meant for children and pregnant mothers.
Reports suggest that the lentils were heavily infested and partially eaten by pests, rendering them unfit for consumption. Journalists who visited the centre confirmed the allegations during an inspection.
Anganwadi worker Una Debnath stated that the supplies were provided by supervisor Sourav Debnath, who advised drying the food in the sun when the issue was raised.
Beneficiaries, however, complain that despite repeated objections, no replacement has been arranged. Concerns are mounting over the health risks posed to vulnerable groups.
Locals have described the poor quality of food under the ICDS scheme as alarming and demanded immediate investigation. Calls have been made for departmental action against those responsible, with appeals for intervention from Minister Tinku Roy and the project director.
