Agartala, 27th June 2026: A daring theft at Anika Jewellers on Vivekananda Road has sent shockwaves through Dharmanagar town. Late last night, miscreants broke into the gold shop and fled with cash and ornaments worth lakhs.
Shop owner Sumanta Das reported that the culprits looted nearly ₹1 lakh from the cash box and drawers, along with approximately 3 to 4 bhoris of gold ornaments kept in the artisan’s drawer. The full extent of the loss will be determined after a detailed assessment.
Das stated that he was alerted by a neighboring shopkeeper early in the morning, who noticed the shutter and interior of the shop broken. On rushing to the spot, he found the premises ransacked.
Police arrived promptly and confirmed that the thief’s face is clearly visible in CCTV footage. However, Das expressed frustration, alleging that the police have long identified the culprit but failed to apprehend him for the past four to five years.
This incident has raised serious concerns among local business owners about security in the bustling Vivekananda Road area. Residents are questioning the competence of Dharmanagar police, asking how a known thief continues his spree unchecked despite clear evidence.
The theft has intensified public debate over the effectiveness of the Dharmanagar Sub-division police administration, with many demanding stronger action to restore confidence in law enforcement.
