CPI(M) submits 7-point memorandum to Melaghar civic body over civic issues

Date:

Agartala, 29th June 2026:  The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) submitted a seven-point memorandum to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Melaghar Municipal Council on Monday, demanding immediate resolution of several civic issues affecting Melaghar town and adjoining rural areas.

The programme was jointly organized by the Melaghar, Melaghar East, and Rudijala area committees of the party. Prior to submitting the memorandum, CPI(M) workers and supporters took out a protest rally through the main commercial areas of Melaghar, raising slogans highlighting public grievances. Party leaders warned that if their demands were not addressed, they would launch a larger mass movement in the coming days.

After the rally, a protest meeting was held in front of the municipal office. The meeting was addressed by leaders including Sonamura subdivision committee secretary and MLA Shyamal Chakraborty, along with Suresh Das. The session was chaired by Anuprava Baxi. Several district and subdivision-level leaders, including Indrajit Saha, Dinesh Das, Ahidur Rahman, Nitananda Barman, Piyush Debnath, Prabir Das, and Bhola Bhaumik, were also present.

Following the meeting, a seven-member delegation led by Dinesh Das met the CEO of the Melaghar Municipal Council and submitted the memorandum. The delegation urged immediate intervention in public interest.

The memorandum highlighted key demands including regular implementation of the TUEP scheme and timely wage payments, easing traffic congestion in Melaghar market, repair of damaged roads and drainage systems, resolution of unusually high electricity bills, and overall improvement of civic amenities.

CPI(M) leaders alleged that the municipal authorities have remained indifferent to public grievances. They also claimed that allegations of corruption within the civic body have surfaced, contributing to worsening conditions for residents.
