Food department raids ‘Apan’ ice cream factory at Birchandra Manu

Date:

Agartala, 30th June 2026: Following recent media reports alleging unhygienic conditions and contamination at the ‘Apan’ Ice Cream factory in Birchandra Manu, the Food Department launched a sudden inspection and raid today. The reports had highlighted disturbing claims of ice cream being produced in unsanitary surroundings, with instances of insect and fungal presence.

Acting swiftly, officials from the South District Food Safety Department and Shantirbazar Sub-Divisional Food Office conducted a joint operation at the factory. The raid team included Pipasa Saha, Officer of the South District Food Safety Department, DCM Shambhujit Das, Dulal Shukla Das, and Krishnapada Chakraborty, among others.

Sources informed that the inspection revealed multiple violations of hygiene standards. Officials reportedly found old ice cream stock being preserved, inadequate cleanliness, and food production in unhealthy conditions. The overall environment of the factory drew sharp criticism from the inspection team.

Local sources further claimed that after the media reports surfaced, the factory authorities hurriedly recruited workers and attempted to clean the premises. Allegations suggest this was merely an effort to conceal long-standing irregularities and poor hygiene practices.

Residents have demanded strict measures, stressing that food safety and public health cannot be compromised. They urged the department to ensure regular inspections, sample collection, and legal action to guarantee safe food for consumers.

Now, all eyes are on the Food Department’s next steps. Locals insist that mere inspection is not enough; a thorough investigation followed by stringent legal action against those responsible is essential to safeguard public health.
