Social Pension Payments Stalled for Three Months: Protest Erupts in Hezamara Block

Date:

Agartala, 1st July 2026:   Local residents staged a protest on Wednesday under the leadership of Tipra Motha MDC Rabindra Debbarma, demanding the immediate release of pending social welfare pensions that have reportedly been halted for the past three months.

Protesters locked the gates of the Hejamara RD Block office and demonstrated against the alleged delay in disbursing social pensions since March. Later, a delegation submitted a memorandum to the Block Development Officer (BDO) listing three key demands.

According to the protesters, social welfare pensions in the area have not been disbursed since March. They urged the authorities to immediately release all pending dues and ensure timely monthly payments from the first day of every month. They also demanded the issuance of smart cards linked to beneficiaries’ IDs so that pensioners can withdraw their funds from any location.

Residents from 21 ADC villages under the Hejamara block gathered from early morning and continued their protest throughout the day. Police from Sidhai Police Station were deployed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

The protesters also demanded immediate action from the CDPO of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department and the Block officials, warning that they would launch further agitation if their grievances are not addressed soon.
