Date:

Agartala, 8th July 2026:  In a major initiative to improve road safety and reduce accidents, the South Tripura District Road Safety Task Force has directed the immediate implementation of several safety measures following a comprehensive inspection of accident-prone roads across the district.

The special inspection covered vulnerable stretches of National Highways NH-108A and NH-08, along with the Belonia-Barpathari road. During the exercise, officials identified damaged road surfaces, sharp curves, inadequate street lighting and several accident-prone locations requiring urgent intervention.

The Task Force instructed the concerned departments to undertake immediate repairs and leveling of damaged blacktop roads in the Ratanpur and South Sonaichhari areas. It also ordered the installation of rumble strips, solar-powered streetlights, safety walls at hazardous locations, and the removal of accumulated soil and debris from roadsides.

In the Gaburchhara area, authorities were directed to remove roadside obstructions without delay and construct necessary safety walls. For the Belonia-Barpathari road, the Task Force ordered the widening of narrow stretches, clearing of roadside vegetation, installation of rumble strips, and placement of plastic traffic dividers to regulate traffic flow.

The inspection also covered several critical locations along NH-08, including Dashami Riyangpara, Aloichhara Bridge, Jagannathpara, Baikhora SSB Camp, Kalsimukh, Jolaibari Block tri-junction, Jolaibari Community Health Centre junction, Sanchirambari, Shakbari junction and the area near the Coconut Board.

For these sites, officials directed the installation of crash barriers, roadside drainage systems, speed breakers, barricades and adequate lighting, besides trimming overhanging tree branches and clearing roadside vegetation.

The District Road Safety Task Force said all identified works must be completed at the earliest through coordinated efforts of the concerned departments. It expressed confidence that the measures would significantly reduce accident risks and ensure safer travel for motorists, pedestrians and local residents across South Tripura.
