Agartala, 9th July 2026: A woman has alleged that she was physically assaulted and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter was forcibly kept away from her after she objected to her husband’s alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade. The victim, along with her mother, lodged a written complaint at Amtali Police Station on Wednesday evening, seeking legal action and the immediate return of the child.
According to the complaint, Rukia Begum of Teliamura had married her daughter, Hosena Begum, to Shakil Miah, son of Isak Miah from Kultali Matinagar under Amtali Police Station, around three years ago. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. While the marriage was initially peaceful, family disputes reportedly surfaced in recent months.
Hosena Begum alleged that she came to know on Wednesday about her husband’s alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade. When she threatened to inform her mother, she was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Shakil Miah, and her mother-in-law, Noor Bhanu. The victim further claimed that she has been suffering from prolonged illness and had previously undergone surgery.
Upon learning about the incident, Rukia Begum rushed to her daughter’s residence but alleged that she too was assaulted. The complainants also accused the husband and mother-in-law of forcibly retaining custody of the minor child.
They further claimed that although police visited the house after receiving the complaint, the child had already been shifted elsewhere. While the family was reportedly assured that the infant would be produced at Amtali Police Station on Thursday morning, they alleged that the child had not been returned by Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to the media, the victim and her mother demanded the immediate reunion of the child with her mother and strict legal action against the accused. They also sought the intervention of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the West Tripura district administration. Police have initiated an investigation into the complaint, though no official statement had been issued by Amtali Police Station at the time of filing this report.
