West Tripura MP achieves 93% MPLADS expenditure milestone

Agartala, 10th July 2026:    West Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has achieved a significant milestone in the utilisation of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds, with more than 93 per cent of the sanctioned amount spent within nearly two years of his tenure. The utilisation rate is reported to be significantly higher than the national average.

According to the latest data from the West Tripura district administration, Deb has sanctioned a total of 32 development projects worth Rs10.43 crore under MPLADS for the financial years 2024–25 to 2026–27. Out of these, work has already started on 29 projects, while 15 projects have been completed and the remaining projects are under various stages of implementation.

Out of the total sanctioned amount of Rs10,43,56,091, an expenditure of Rs9,71,01,413 has already been recorded, accounting for approximately 93.05 per cent utilisation.

During the 2024–25 financial year, Deb sanctioned six projects worth Rs3.19 crore. Three of these projects have already been completed, while work on the remaining projects is progressing rapidly. Nearly Rs3 crore has already been spent from the sanctioned amount, marking more than 94 per cent utilisation for the year.

In the 2025–26 financial year, the MP sanctioned the highest number of projects — 23 initiatives worth Rs6.51 crore. Among these, 12 projects have been completed, while others are at different stages of execution. Several ongoing projects have achieved 60 to nearly 100 per cent physical progress. More than Rs5.71 crore has already been spent, representing around 88 per cent utilisation.

For the 2026–27 financial year, Deb has sanctioned three new projects worth Rs72.54 lakh. Since these projects were approved recently, one has entered the initial implementation stage, while the other two are undergoing tender and administrative processes.

Earlier, Biplab Kumar Deb served as a Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura after taking oath in September 2022. He resigned from the Upper House after being elected to the Lok Sabha from West Tripura in the 2024 general elections.

During his approximately one year and eight months tenure as a Rajya Sabha member, Deb sanctioned 14 development projects under MPLADS during the financial years 2022–23 and 2023–24. The total allocation for these projects was Rs4.43 crore, and the entire sanctioned amount was utilised, achieving 100 per cent expenditure.

The Utilisation Certificates (UCs) for projects worth Rs7.03 crore have also been submitted to the Central Government, accounting for around 67.39 per cent of the total project value.
