Youth Group Creates Ruckus at Kanchanmala PHC, Accused Detained in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 12th July 2026:  Tension prevailed at Kanchanmala Primary Health Centre under the Kamalasagar Assembly constituency after a group of youths allegedly created a disturbance and behaved indecently with on-duty healthcare workers, including a woman doctor. Acting on the complaint, Amtali Police detained the main accused, identified as Shubham Majumder, along with several others.

According to local sources, around 2 am on Saturday night, Shubham Majumder, a resident of Chankhala area under Kamalasagar, along with a few other youths, allegedly entered the health centre and started creating a commotion. It has been alleged that they threatened the on-duty woman doctor and other healthcare staff and also attempted to assault them.

As the situation went out of control, the hospital authorities informed Amtali Police. A police team soon reached the spot and detained Shubham Majumder and some others in connection with the incident.

The incident has created panic among doctors, healthcare workers, patients, and their attendants at the health centre. Local residents claimed that a similar incident had taken place at the same hospital last year as well. The recurrence of such incidents has raised concerns over the safety of medical staff and patients.

Patients and their family members expressed concern, stating that if doctors and patients are not safe in government healthcare facilities, public confidence in the healthcare system will be affected.

Following the incident, healthcare workers, patients, and local residents have urged the state Health Department and police administration to strengthen security arrangements at the hospital. They have also demanded strict legal action against those involved. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
