DM Advises Public to Avoid Katakhal Embankment, Durgachowmuhani–Pragati Road Amid Heavy Rain

Date:

Agartala, 13th July 2026:  The West Tripura District Administration has issued a public advisory urging residents and commuters to avoid using the Katakhal Embankment and the route from Durgachowmuhani to the backside of Pragati Road due to continuous heavy rainfall and the heightened risk of accidents.

The advisory, issued by West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, stated that the two routes have become highly vulnerable and unsafe because of the persistent rain. Authorities warned that the areas face an increased risk of embankment failure, severe waterlogging, and other rain-related hazards, making movement unsafe for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The order has been issued under Sections 26, 30, and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, empowering the district administration to take preventive measures to safeguard public life during emergencies.

The district administration has advised all residents, commuters, and vehicle operators not to use the affected routes until further notice. People have been requested to use alternative routes and strictly follow directions issued by the competent authorities.

Describing the advisory as a precautionary measure in the interest of public safety, the administration appealed for public cooperation in ensuring smooth implementation of the restrictions. It also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the temporary restrictions.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation as heavy rainfall continues to affect several parts of West Tripura. The administration said the advisory will remain in force until weather conditions improve and the affected routes are declared safe for public movement.
