Prime accused in Melaghar minor rape case arrested after month-long manhunt

Agartala, 13th July 2026:   Nearly a month after the widely discussed minor rape case in Melaghar, police have finally arrested the prime accused, Pintu Ranjan Ghosh.

According to police sources, Ghosh had been absconding since the incident, sparking public anger and questions over the delay in his arrest. However, officials confirmed that a quiet but intensive investigation was underway, with surveillance maintained on his movements.

On Thursday, acting on a tip-off, a special team from Melaghar Police Station intercepted a vehicle during a naka checking operation while it was attempting to flee towards Agartala. A search led to the arrest of Ghosh from inside the car.

Speaking to the media, the Officer-in-Charge of Melaghar Police Station stated that the investigation had been pursued with utmost seriousness from the very beginning. “Certain legal and strategic factors required time, but ultimately we succeeded in apprehending the accused,” he said.

Police confirmed that Ghosh will be produced before court, with a request for remand to uncover further details related to the case.
