Agartala, 15th July 2026: The Department of Nephrology at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital has successfully completed its eighth and ninth kidney transplants, marking another milestone in Tripura’s healthcare sector. These achievements were made possible under the guidance of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and through the collaborative efforts of specialist teams from GBP Hospital and Shija Hospital, Manipur.
On July 14, a kidney was transplanted into a 22-year-old youth from Chailengta, Dhalai district, with his 45-year-old mother as the donor. Both are stable and recovering well. The following day, July 15, a 23-year-old from Padmanagar, Bishramganj, Sepahijala district underwent a successful transplant, also receiving a kidney from his 45-year-old mother.
The surgeries, lasting six hours each, were performed by a joint team of nephrologists, urologists, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff from both institutions. All nine transplants conducted so far have been provided free of cost, with the Tripura government also covering travel expenses for the visiting medical team. Strict adherence to medical guidelines and compatibility testing ensured the success of these life-saving procedures.
