Agartala, 16th July 2026: Tripura has completed preparations for the upcoming Census 2027, which will mark India’s first fully digital population census. The state government, in coordination with the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, has put in place all arrangements for the nationwide exercise.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Ratan Biswas, IAS, Director of Census Operations, Tripura, announced the schedule and key features of the digital census process and appealed to the media to create awareness among citizens about the new system.
The Self-Enumeration (SE) phase will begin on July 17, 2026, and continue till July 31, 2026. During this period, residents will be able to provide their household details online through the official portal se.census.gov.in using OTP-based mobile verification.
The online platform will be available in 16 regional languages, enabling wider participation and making the process more convenient for people across Tripura.
After completing self-enumeration, households will receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID, which will later be verified by census officials during field visits. This system is expected to reduce the time required for door-to-door data collection.
The next phase, House Listing Operations (HLO), will be carried out from August 1 to August 30, 2026. During this stage, trained enumerators will visit households across all eight districts of Tripura to collect details related to housing conditions, availability of basic facilities, including drinking water, electricity, sanitation and internet access, along with household assets.
The first phase questionnaire will contain 33 questions covering various aspects of residential and household information.
Officials said the entire census exercise will be carried out through digital applications and web-based platforms, with no paper forms being used. They assured residents that all personal information collected during the census will remain confidential under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948.
The authorities further stated that strong data protection measures, including encryption and multi-factor authentication, have been implemented to ensure the security and privacy of citizens’ information throughout the census process.
