Agartala, 26th July 2026 : A 19-year-old youth was detained with a large quantity of cannabis during a routine search operation at Udaipur Railway Station on Sunday morning, police said.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police when the Sabroom-Agartala Kanchanjunga-bound train arrived at the station. During the search, the movement of a young passenger aroused suspicion, prompting security personnel to detain him for questioning.
The detained youth was identified as Sagar Mia (19), a resident of Mohanbhog in Sepahijala district. Initially, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the contents of his bag. A thorough search subsequently led to the recovery of a large quantity of cannabis.
According to preliminary investigations, the contraband was allegedly being transported for smuggling to Chennai. Following the seizure, a police team led by the Officer-in-Charge of Radhakishorepur Police Station reached the spot and launched a detailed investigation.
Police said the estimated market value of the seized cannabis runs into several lakhs of rupees. Investigators are now trying to trace the source of the narcotics, identify the intended recipient, and uncover others linked to the suspected interstate smuggling network.
