Agartala, 30th July 2026 : The Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station, Sushanta Deb, has been suspended after the Tripura High Court intervened in a case involving allegations of delayed FIR registration and harassment of a woman complainant.
The action followed a petition filed before the High Court, where the woman alleged that despite submitting a written complaint containing allegations of a cognizable offence, police did not register an FIR for several weeks.
Senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman, appearing for the petitioner, alleged that the complainant was instead summoned to the police station and subjected to pressure and intimidation to withdraw her complaint. He further claimed that the woman had approached the West Tripura District Superintendent of Police regarding the issue, but immediate relief was not provided.
During the hearing before the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, it was informed that the FIR had eventually been registered. The court was also told that the district police authorities had earlier directed the Airport Police Station to take necessary action, but the instruction was allegedly not implemented.
In the subsequent hearing, the court was informed about the suspension of OC Sushanta Deb. The petitioner also raised allegations of continued intimidation after moving the court.
Taking the allegations seriously, the High Court directed the police department to ensure the safety and security of the complainant. The case will be taken up for further hearing on Friday.
