Agartala, 30th July 2026 : The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Tripura government to investigate the death of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar has reached New Delhi to carry forward its investigation.
Sources said several members of the SIT, including Inspector Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Amtali Police Station, Women Inspector Shiuli Das, OC of West Agartala Women Police Station, and Sub-Inspector Subendu Das, OC of Ramanagar Town Outpost (TOP), have already arrived in Delhi and begun the process of collecting information related to the case.
The SIT was constituted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (West) Namit Pathak after the state government ordered a police-led inquiry into the DGP’s death.
As per an official order issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, on July 25, the SIT has been formed to conduct a “thorough, coordinated and expeditious investigation” into West Agartala Police Station Unnatural Death (UD) Case No. 2026WAG045, registered on July 20 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The investigation team comprises SP (West) Namit Pathak, Additional SP (Urban) Dhruba Nath, Additional SP (AN) Souvik De, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Officer-in-Charge of Cyber Crime Police Station Benjamin Dewan, Inspector Rana Chatterjee, Inspector Bhaskar Saha (KTDS, PTA), Women Inspector Shiuli Das, Sub-Inspector Subhojit Deb, the Investigating Officer and OC of Battala TOP, SI Subendu Das, and SI Chinmoy Bhowmik of Battala OP.
The team’s visit to the national capital is aimed at examining all relevant aspects of the case and collecting evidence as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of the state’s former police chief.
