Agartala, 7th August 2026: Residents of Manughat under Longtharai Valley Sub-Division in Tripura staged a massive protest on Friday against the alleged poor power supply, frequent outages, and irregularities in electricity services. The agitated protesters blocked a national highway, leading to severe traffic congestion and leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for hours.
According to the protesters, the area has been suffering from substandard electricity services for a long time, with repeated power cuts causing immense hardship to residents. They alleged that despite raising the issue with the Electricity Department on several occasions, no effective or permanent measures have been taken to address their grievances.
During the demonstration, protesters demanded immediate improvement in electricity services and also called for the resignation of the state’s Power Minister, holding the department responsible for the prolonged crisis.
The agitators warned that if the authorities fail to resolve the issue promptly, they would intensify their movement with larger protests in the coming days.
Following the highway blockade, police and civil administration officials rushed to the spot and initiated talks with the protesters in an attempt to restore normalcy. However, as of the time of filing this report, the blockade was still in progress, and vehicular movement on the national highway remained partially disrupted.
