Agartala, 12th August 2026: A joint delegation of BJP and Tipra Motha supporters from the Saantirbazar assembly constituency on Wednesday approached the Block Development Officers (BDOs) of Bagafa and Jolaibari blocks, urging the administration to ensure that the upcoming census is conducted accurately and strictly in accordance with existing administrative boundaries.
The delegation met Bagafa BDO Manoj Pal and Jolaibari BDO Nababrata Dutta and raised concerns over census-related activities in three localities—Gagan Chowdhurypara, Tarinipara and Ganirampara. According to the delegation, the three areas are administratively located under Baikhora village in the Bagafa area, but census-related work is currently being carried out by officials from the Jolaibari block.
The representatives expressed apprehension that such discrepancies could create confusion in official records and administrative jurisdiction in the future. They recalled that during the 2011 Census, some parts of the Baikhora area had allegedly been placed under Jolaibari block, and stressed that the issue should be addressed at the initial stage to prevent a repetition.
The delegation urged both BDOs to verify the administrative boundaries and exact locations of villages and localities before the census process progresses. They also sought clear instructions for census officials and field-level staff so that the enumeration is carried out according to the correct administrative jurisdiction.
The BJP and Tipra Motha representatives emphasised that census data is crucial for government planning, delivery of welfare benefits, administrative decisions and official documentation. They therefore called for close monitoring of the process to prevent errors or inconsistencies.
The delegation later claimed that officials of both Bagafa and Jolaibari blocks had given written assurances that the census would be conducted accurately. The administration has also reportedly assured them that the matter would be examined and necessary steps taken.
Residents of the three affected localities are now awaiting the administration’s decision after verification of their actual administrative status.
