Agartala, 18th August 2026 : The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has suspended two engineers in connection with allegations of negligence in electricity billing and shortcomings in consumer service. The action, according to government sources, has been taken pending completion of a detailed departmental inquiry.
The engineers have been removed from their respective responsibilities following complaints of lapses in billing-related work, delays in attending to consumer issues and inadequate response to service-related grievances. An investigation is now underway to determine the extent of the alleged negligence and fix responsibility.
Sources further said that the functioning of several other engineers is also being examined following similar complaints. Officials are scrutinising billing procedures, response to consumer complaints and delays in restoring electricity services. Depending on the findings, additional disciplinary measures could be initiated against those found responsible.
The action comes at a time when complaints over electricity bills have become a major concern among consumers. Erroneous bills, difficulties in understanding billing details and delays in resolving complaints have reportedly led to increasing dissatisfaction in different parts of the state.
Consumers have also raised concerns over delays in power restoration and alleged lack of prompt response from officials when service-related problems are reported. The latest disciplinary action is therefore being seen as an attempt by the Corporation to reinforce accountability among its field-level and supervisory personnel.
The authorities are also likely to review existing monitoring mechanisms to identify gaps in bill preparation, verification, grievance redressal and restoration of disrupted services.
The suspension of the two engineers, along with the ongoing scrutiny of other officials, is expected to send a clear message that negligence in essential public services will not be overlooked. Consumers, meanwhile, have expressed hope that the measures will result in more accurate billing, quicker grievance resolution and improved electricity services across Tripura.
