Agartala, 19th August 2026 : Bharat Mata Canteen-cum-Shelter House is all set to be inaugurated today by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha in the presence of several dignitaries.
The facility has been developed to provide temporary accommodation and essential support to the family members of patients undergoing treatment at the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital and the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Hospital in Agartala.
The shelter house has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore and is aimed at providing a safe and convenient place to stay for families who often face difficulties in arranging accommodation while accompanying patients receiving prolonged treatment.
Ahead of the inauguration, Secretary of Urban Development Milind Ramteke, along with State Mission Director of Tripura Urban Livelihoods Mission Tarit Kanti Chakma, visited the site today to review the arrangements and assess the readiness of the facility.
The Bharat Mata Canteen-cum-Shelter House is expected to provide much-needed relief to economically weaker families and those coming from distant parts of the state for medical treatment. The initiative is being seen as an important step towards strengthening patient-support infrastructure and ensuring greater dignity and convenience for families during difficult times.
