Agartala, 25th August 2026 : An alleged illegal liquor-laden Bolero vehicle was intercepted by local youths at Laljuri in North Tripura on Monday night while it was reportedly speeding towards Kanchanpur after evading a naka checkpoint.
The vehicle, bearing registration number TR-05-G-1926, was intercepted at around 9 pm. However, the driver reportedly fled from the spot immediately after the vehicle was stopped.
On receiving the information, police from the Laljuri outpost reached the location and seized the vehicle. A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of a large quantity of illegally transported foreign liquor.
According to the Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the estimated market value of the seized liquor is around Rs 10 lakh. The officer also stated that police had received prior intelligence regarding the transportation of a large quantity of liquor in the vehicle.
Questions have now been raised over how the vehicle allegedly managed to evade the naka checkpoint and proceed towards its destination.
Local residents have demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and strict action against those involved in the illegal liquor trade. Meanwhile, the initiative of the local youths in intercepting the vehicle and informing the police has been widely appreciated.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the absconding driver and ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized liquor.
