Agartala, 26th August 2026: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was reportedly found lying in an intoxicated condition beside a roadside at Yeazekhowra on August 23 after completing his duty, police sources said.
According to information received through the District Intelligence Branch (DIB), an enquiry was initiated following the incident, with the Officer-in-Charge of Irani Police Station directed to submit a report.
As per the enquiry report, at around 9:30 am on August 23, information was received that SPO-206 Budhu Urang was lying in an intoxicated condition at Yeazekhowra after completing his duty.
The OC of Irani Police Station immediately deputed police personnel to verify the information. Upon reaching the location, the personnel found Urang lying beside the roadside in an intoxicated state while still wearing his police uniform.
His family members were subsequently informed, and he was handed over to them.
Police clarified that at the time of the incident, Urang had already completed his assigned duty and was on his way home.
Following the incident, departmental action has been initiated against SPO-206 Budhu Urang in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The incident has raised concerns regarding discipline and conduct among personnel, particularly while wearing official uniform, though police officials clarified that the officer was off duty when the incident occurred.
