GB Hospital MS accused of assaulting wife, hospitalised, Police Begin Probe

Date:

Agartala, 26th August 2026 :  Dr. Sarbani Debbarma, wife of GB Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami, was allegedly assaulted by her husband at their residence late Tuesday night, leaving her seriously injured. She is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of GB Pant Hospital.

According to Dr. Sarbani’s complaint, the incident took place around 11:45 pm on Tuesday after Dr. Bidhan Goswami returned home in an allegedly intoxicated and incoherent condition. She claimed that he became angry after she took some time to open the gate.

After entering the house, Dr. Sarbani reportedly asked her husband why he had returned home so late. She alleged that Dr. Bidhan then threw a piece of brick at her, causing a serious injury to her eye.

She was immediately taken to GB Hospital, where doctors admitted her to the ICU for treatment.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Sarbani alleged that she had been facing physical and mental abuse from her husband for the past 28 years, since their marriage. She claimed that similar incidents had occurred repeatedly over the years and said she had decided to seek justice in the matter.

Meanwhile, police visited the ICU at GB Hospital on Wednesday afternoon and recorded Dr. Sarbani’s complaint. An investigation into the allegations has been initiated.

The allegations are under investigation, and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established.
