Agartala, 3rd September 2026 : Tripura has taken another step towards modernising its transport and tourism infrastructure with the launch of app-based cab service Uber and a dedicated tourist information centre at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury formally inaugurated the services on Wednesday. Through virtual connectivity, Agartala Railway Station and Jagannathnagar Railway Station have also been brought under the new transport network, allowing passengers arriving at the airport and the two railway stations to book cabs through the app.
The introduction of app-based cab services is expected to make transportation more convenient, safer and more hassle-free for passengers. Travellers will be able to book vehicles with just a few taps on their mobile phones, reducing the difficulty of finding transport at the last moment and minimising the possibility of disputes over fares.
Alongside the cab service, a tourist information centre has been opened at MBB Airport to assist visitors arriving in the state. The centre will provide information and guidance on major tourist destinations, accommodation facilities and local attractions, helping visitors plan their trips more effectively.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the government is committed to using digital technology to transform Tripura into a modern, safe and tourist-friendly state. He said the introduction of app-based transportation would not only benefit passengers but also contribute positively to the state’s tourism sector.
The minister further stressed the importance of technology-driven services in attracting tourists from different parts of the country as well as from abroad. Integrating the airport and railway stations through a common digital transport system, he said, would add a new dimension to Tripura’s transport and tourism sectors.
