Agartala, 11th September 2026 : Panic has gripped Agartala following another chain-snatching incident in broad daylight near Ramthakur Temple in Jogendranagar on Friday.
Reportedly, around 11 am, Gita Rani Das was walking along the road when two youths riding a motorcycle allegedly approached her. One of them reportedly grabbed her and attempted to snatch her gold chain. When she resisted, the accused allegedly pushed her, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her knee, elbow and leg.
The youths then allegedly fled with the chain, valued at around Rs 1.70 lakh, on their motorcycle. A woman accompanying Gita reportedly witnessed the incident and was left shocked.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and have begun an investigation. However, no arrests or identification of the accused have been reported so far.
Residents have expressed concern over repeated daylight snatching incidents and demanded swift arrests and stronger security measures in the area.
