Agartala, 23rd September 2026 : The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Agartala, Government of India, organised a ‘Barta’ programme at the PRTI Hall in Udaipur, Gomati district, on Tuesday, bringing together officials and representatives to discuss key government initiatives concerning social welfare, development, nutrition and water conservation.
The programme focused on four major themes—Nasha Mukt Bharat, 12 years of Good Governance, Rashtriya Poshan Maah and ‘Catch the Rain’, with particular emphasis on rainwater conservation.
The programme was inaugurated by the distinguished guests by lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Gomati Zilla Sabhadhipati Debal Deb Roy, Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shital Chandra Majumdar, retired Assistant Director of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs Debashis Lodh, Officer-in-Charge of Udaipur Science Centre under the Tripura State Council for Science and Technology Ayan Saha, and D.S.I.E. of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education Biplab Ghosh.
Speaking on the importance of the issues, Debal Deb Roy and Shital Chandra Majumdar elaborated on Nasha Mukt Bharat, good governance, nutrition and rainwater conservation, highlighting the need for greater public participation in these initiatives.
Lodh said Nasha Mukt Bharat should not remain merely a slogan but must become a collective social responsibility. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call from the Red Fort on August 15, 2020, for building a drug-free India, he stressed the need for introspection and stronger social resistance against addiction. He called for collective efforts to help people affected by substance abuse return to a productive and dignified life.
On 12 years of good governance, Lodh referred to former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s vision of development and identified agriculture and food processing, education and healthcare as important foundations. He said the country was moving towards the goal of a developed India by 2047. He also highlighted the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi and rooftop solar initiatives, noting that around 10 MW of solar power is currently being generated in Tripura.
Ayan Saha, speaking on ‘Catch the Rain’, stressed the importance of conserving rainwater for future generations. He said rainwater could be channelled underground through ponds and other water bodies and cited rainwater conservation initiatives in Tripura as examples worth emulating. He also referred to Prime Minister Modi’s mention of Vanghmun’s water conservation efforts during ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
Biplab Ghosh highlighted the significance of Rashtriya Poshan Maah and explained the role of Anganwadi Centres in supporting mothers and children and creating awareness about nutrition. He also underlined the cooperation of different departments in strengthening nutrition-related initiatives.
