Agartala, 25th September 2026 : The Sadar Sub-divisional Committee of the Tripura Harijan Unnayan Samiti on Friday submitted a seven-point charter of demands to the West Tripura District Magistrate, seeking measures to address long-pending socio-economic issues faced by Harijan families.
One of the major demands was the formal allotment of land to Harijan and other families who have been residing for years on government Khas land in areas including Bhallukiya Tila, Ambedkar Palli, Chanmari and the Rubber Board area. The organisation claimed that despite their long-term residence, several families in these localities have yet to receive formal land rights.
The Samiti also raised concerns over the alleged exclusion of impoverished Harijan families from various government social allowance schemes. It claimed that none of the Harijan families residing in the areas mentioned are currently receiving social allowances, despite the existence of welfare schemes for eligible beneficiaries.
The organisation demanded immediate administrative intervention to identify eligible families and ensure that they are brought under the applicable social allowance schemes and receive the benefits without further delay.
Through the deputation, the Samiti also sought steps to promote the socio-economic development of the Harijan community, ensure access to government welfare facilities and expedite the resolution of longstanding issues affecting the community.
Representatives of the organisation expressed hope that the district administration would examine the demands seriously and take necessary measures to address the concerns raised by the community.
