Agartala, 26th September 2026 : Students of the Kalachhara Eklavya Model Residential School staged a protest by blocking National Highway 8 connecting Sabroom and Agartala on Saturday, raising several longstanding issues concerning the school.
The students began their road blockade in the morning by sitting on the highway. The protest disrupted traffic movement and caused inconvenience to commuters and vehicle drivers.
The students alleged that the school has been facing a drinking water crisis for a long time. They also demanded the appointment of teachers for Social Science and Science subjects, installation of solar lights and smart boards, and arrangements to honour meritorious students with awards.
According to the students, they had repeatedly brought these issues to the attention of the concerned department and the school principal, but no effective action was taken. They said they were therefore compelled to resort to the highway blockade.
After receiving information about the protest, police personnel from Manu Bazar Police Station and concerned officials reached the spot. Following discussions with the students, the officials assured them that their demands would be looked into seriously.
Following the assurance, the students withdrew the blockade, and traffic movement on the national highway returned to normal.
