Agartala, 27th September 2026 : Tension gripped the Kalibazar area under Bamutia Assembly constituency on Sunday when BJP workers and supporters staged a black-flag protest during former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar’s visit to attend a DYFI conference.
Sarkar had arrived at the Kalibazar CPI(M) party office to participate in the DYFI conference when a group of BJP supporters allegedly began protesting with black flags and raised slogans against him. The incident led to tension in the area, with police deployed to maintain law and order.
According to CPI(M) sources, the protesters continued their demonstration in the presence of police, temporarily preventing Sarkar’s convoy from proceeding. The former Chief Minister was reportedly shown black flags during the protest.
The Left party also alleged that an attempt was made to attack Sarkar’s convoy. CPI(M) leaders questioned the role of the police, claiming that the former Chief Minister had to face the situation despite the presence of senior police officials at the spot.
Speaking about the incident, Sarkar alleged that supporters of the ruling party had attempted to disrupt the conference. However, he said the programme was held despite the obstacles and that he also interacted with party workers.
Sarkar further alleged that attacks and disruptions during CPI(M) programmes were not new and claimed that Left supporters were facing such incidents while organising party programmes across the state. He also raised questions over the law-and-order situation in Tripura.
Meanwhile, some local residents claimed that the protest was linked to allegations surrounding the Rose Valley financial scam.
The black-flag demonstration and slogans during Sarkar’s programme led to a tense situation in Kalibazar for some time. The situation was later brought under control.
