Agartala, 3rd October 2026 : 40-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a motorcycle at Betaga Signboard area under Shantirbazar police station in South Tripura on Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the National Highway near a college at around 1:25 pm. According to preliminary information, a bus bearing registration number TR-01-B-1392 was travelling from Sabroom towards Agartala, while a motorcycle bearing registration number TR-08-A-6702 was heading from Birchandranagar market towards Muhuripur.
When the vehicles reached the Betaga Signboard area, they collided for reasons that are yet to be ascertained. The motorcycle rider was thrown onto the highway and sustained serious injuries in the impact.
On receiving information about the accident, personnel from the Shantirbazar Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and rescued the injured rider. He was taken to Shantirbazar District Hospital for treatment.However, doctors on duty examined him and declared him dead.
The deceased was identified as Dipankar Talukdar (40), son of Nitai Talukdar and a resident of the Muhuripur area.Police from Shantirbazar police station subsequently reached the accident site and launched an investigation into the incident. The bus and motorcycle involved in the collision have also been taken under investigation as police work to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The body has been kept at the Shantirbazar morgue. Police said it will be handed over to the family members after completion of the post-mortem examination.
