Political Tension Grips Kalachhara Ahead of Village Committee Election Results

Date:

Agartala, 4th  October 2026 :   Political tension gripped Prasanna Rojapara in the Kalachhara area of Sabroom subdivision nearly 12 hours before the results of the Village Committee elections were scheduled to be declared. A BJP supporter was allegedly seriously injured after being hit on the head with a stick, triggering widespread tension in the area.

According to reports, Khachindra Tripura (27), a resident of the Kalibazar area of Kalachhara, was returning home after watching a football match when he got into an argument with a local resident, Sundaram Tripura. The verbal altercation reportedly escalated, following which Sundaram Tripura allegedly struck Khachindra on the head with a stick. Khachindra fell to the ground after sustaining the injury.

Family members immediately took him to the Kalachhara Primary Health Centre, where he received medical treatment.

Khachindra Tripura alleged that a few days before the Village Committee elections, Sundaram Tripura had warned him against voting for the BJP. He further alleged that he had been threatened with having his hands and legs broken if he voted for the BJP.

It is learnt that Khachindra Tripura and Sundaram Tripura are uncle and nephew. The incident, occurring shortly before the declaration of the election results, has heightened political tension in the Kalachhara area. The local administration and police are keeping a close watch on the situation. Police from Manu Bazar Police Station are investigating the incident.
