Agartala, 6th  October 2026 :  The ruling NDA alliance has secured a commanding mandate in Tripura’s Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee elections, with its three constituent parties—Tipra Motha Party (TMP), BJP and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT)—collectively polling 77.50 per cent of the votes and winning 4,320 seats.

The final election analysis released by the State Election Commission on Tuesday showed TMP emerging as the largest party, winning 3,428 seats with a vote share of 46.76 per cent. The BJP followed with 859 seats and 28 per cent, while the IPFT secured 33 seats with 2.74 per cent.

State Election Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty announced the final figures at a press conference in Agartala, saying the counting process had been completed successfully across the state.

TMP secured majority in 457 Village Committees, while the BJP emerged as the majority party in 94. The CPI(M) secured majorities in two VCs and the IPFT in two, while 31 VCs fell under the independent category, where no clear majority was established or unaffiliated candidates predominated.

According to the SEC, CPI(M) polled 12.90 per cent, Independents 7.74 per cent and Congress 1.86 per cent. The final seat distribution stood at 3,428 for TMP, 859 for BJP, 173 for Independents, 87 for CPI(M), 33 for IPFT and 14 for Congress, while three seats remained vacant.

Chakraborty said counting commenced at 8 am on October 5 at 44 counting locations, covering 45 counting halls across 44 RD Blocks. While counting was completed at most centres by the evening, the process at Manu RD Block continued into the early hours of October 6.

A three-tier security arrangement involving central armed forces, Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles was deployed at the counting centres. The SEC said no security-related incident or disruption was reported inside the counting halls.

The Commissioner also said minor tensions reported ahead of counting in Salema, Tulasikhar and Kathalia RD Blocks were brought under control with timely intervention by police and the local administration.

The elections also recorded a high voter turnout. The SEC said 5,33,808 voters cast their ballots at polling stations, while another 6,628 exercised their franchise through Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot (EDV), taking the total votes polled to 5,40,436. The overall turnout, including EDV, stood at 81.29 per cent.

Women registered higher participation than men, with 2,70,897 female voters casting ballots at polling stations compared with 2,62,911 male voters.

At the district level, South Tripura recorded the highest turnout at 86.08 per cent, while West Tripura registered the lowest at 72.64 per cent.

The State Election Commission thanked election officials, security personnel, political parties, the media and voters for their cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the Village Committee election process.
