Agartala, 7th October 2026 : Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb called for stronger international cooperation and decisive collective action to combat terrorism while presenting India’s national statement at the Sixth Committee of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Addressing the discussion on “Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism,” Deb reiterated India’s zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism and called for concerted global efforts to dismantle terrorist organisations and their support networks.
Deb stressed that effective action must target not only terrorist groups but also their sources of financing and those providing them safe havens. He underlined the need to disrupt terror funding, dismantle cross-border networks and ensure accountability for entities and individuals supporting or sheltering terrorists.
Referring to India’s position under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Deb said the country has consistently advocated a firm and comprehensive global response to terrorism.
He emphasised that the threat cannot be addressed by any one nation alone and requires coordinated, sustained and decisive action by the international community.
Deb further said India remains committed to promoting a safe, peaceful and rules-based international order, and called for greater cooperation among nations to protect global peace and security.
His intervention at the UN Sixth Committee highlighted India’s continued emphasis on collective action and stronger international mechanisms to eliminate terrorism.
