Agartala, 7th October 2026 : A wild tusker strayed out of the forested and rural areas adjoining the Atharamura hills and entered residential neighbourhoods of Tripura’s Agartala on Tuesday evening, triggering panic among local residents.
The elephant was spotted at around 7:30 pm moving through the DM Colony, Maharani Pur and Netaji Nagar areas after leaving the forest and nearby rural settlements.
According to local residents, the tusker suddenly appeared in the populated area during the evening hours. As news of its presence spread, fear gripped the neighbourhood. Several residents reportedly came out of their homes for safety, while others watched the elephant’s movements from a distance.
Elephant movement is not unusual in areas located close to forests. However, the tusker’s entry into a densely populated locality during the evening heightened concerns among residents, particularly over its possible route and where it might move next.
The incident created considerable tension in the area, with residents remaining alert and closely monitoring the elephant’s movements. People living in and around the affected areas have been urged to exercise caution and avoid approaching the animal.
