Agartala, 11th October 2026 :The Tripura Pradesh Congress has launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led state government, alleging failure to fulfil electoral promises, growing unemployment, vacancies in government departments and continued deprivation of teachers and government employees.
In a statement, Tripura Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty accused the government led by Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha of prioritising publicity and celebrations over addressing pressing public issues. He alleged that despite repeated promises, several key commitments made before the 2018 Assembly elections remained unfulfilled even after more than eight years.
Chakraborty claimed that thousands of government teaching posts remained vacant while qualified candidates who had cleared the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) continued to wait for appointments. He also expressed concern over the uncertain future of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers and contractual employees working under various government schemes, including the National Health Mission.
The Congress leader further alleged that around 60,000 vacancies across important government departments had adversely affected public services, causing delays and hardship for ordinary citizens. He questioned the delay in recruitment even after interview processes had been completed and criticised the alleged discontinuation of provisions for regularising irregular employees after ten years of service.
Referring to government employees’ demands, Chakraborty questioned whether the recently announced three per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) hike adequately addressed their concerns. He also raised issues relating to pending DA, the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, gratuity, pension benefits and the demand to restore the old pension system.
The Congress spokesperson also raised allegations of irregularities in recruitment under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), including claims of recruitment cancellations despite collecting application fees and alleged favouritism in appointments. He called for transparency and accountability, while noting that matters pending before courts should be resolved through legal procedures.
Chakraborty urged teachers, government employees, unemployed youths, contractual workers and job aspirants to rise above political differences and unite to launch a strong democratic movement to press for their rights and demand accountability from the government.
