Agartala, 11th October 2026 :Two Bangladeshi women and a child were detained by Amtali police on Saturday on suspicion of illegally entering India. According to police sources, the trio was intercepted in front of a hotel near Agartala Railway Station during routine patrolling.
Police said a team led by Sub-Inspector Ruma Jamatia and other personnel spotted the two women and the child in suspicious circumstances in the railway station area. Following questioning, they were identified as Bangladeshi nationals.
The trio was subsequently taken to Amtali police station and handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings. They have reportedly been sent to the Narsingarh Home.
According to sources, the three had earlier been arrested by Hyderabad Police and subsequently sent to Tripura for the pushback process. However, they allegedly re-entered India after the process and were planning to travel to Hyderabad by train. These details could not be independently verified.
The incident has once again brought attention to alleged cases of illegal infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. Concerns have been raised over vulnerable stretches of the international border where fencing is reportedly absent, with allegations that touts facilitate the movement of undocumented entrants to different parts of the country.
Questions have also been raised about the alleged involvement of certain vehicle drivers operating in the vicinity of Agartala Railway Station in facilitating such movement.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings concerning the detained individuals are underway. The decision on whether they will be sent back to Bangladesh will depend on the concerned authorities and the applicable legal procedures.
