TET-qualified job aspirants stage protest, seek recruitment of all candidates

Date:

Agartala,  12th  October 2026 :  Unemployed youths who qualified in the 2024 Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET-2) staged a protest demonstration in front of the Education Department building on Monday, demanding the simultaneous recruitment of all successful candidates.

The protesters said that although 1,488 candidates had qualified for the examination, the recruitment list published on October 9 included only 766 candidates, leaving around 700–750 aspirants waiting for appointment. They demanded that the government initiate the recruitment process for the remaining qualified candidates without further delay.

The demonstrators said they had been waiting for nearly two years after clearing the examination and had repeatedly approached the Education Department, the Teachers’ Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT), the Chief Minister’s residence and the Finance Minister’s office, seeking clarity on their appointment prospects. However, they alleged that their representations had not resulted in any satisfactory response.

A woman protester said the excluded candidates had completed the same examination and recruitment procedures as those selected in the first list and questioned why the remaining aspirants were being made to wait. She said the prolonged uncertainty had caused considerable distress, with many candidates facing questions from neighbours and relatives about why they had not secured jobs.

“We filled out the applications together, appeared for the examination together and worked equally hard. If some candidates have been selected, why should the rest of us be left out?” she asked, appealing to Chief Minister and Education Minister Dr Manik Saha to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Another protester pointed out that teachers retire regularly, creating vacancies in the education system. The candidates urged the government to issue a fresh recruitment notification and take steps to accommodate all the remaining qualified aspirants through the prescribed verification process.

According to the protesters, a delegation visited the Elementary Education Department on Monday to seek a definite timeline for the next phase of recruitment. An official reportedly received their representation but could not provide a clear assurance regarding when the remaining candidates would be appointed.

The protesters said they had repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities but had yet to receive a satisfactory answer. They insisted that their demand was for all eligible candidates to be considered for recruitment and urged the government to prevent further uncertainty over their professional future.

Highlighting the difficulties faced by women aspirants in particular, a protester said securing a government job would bring happiness and financial security not only to the candidates but also to their families. She appealed to the authorities to take a positive decision, especially during the festive season, when selected candidates were celebrating their success while others continued to wait.

The protesters called upon the Chief Minister and the Education Department to address their concerns and complete the recruitment process for the remaining TET-qualified candidates as soon as possible.
