Agartala, 12th October 2026 : Artistic creativity, technological spectacle and cultural heritage are coming together at several Durga Puja pandals in Agartala, where organisers are developing distinctive themes to attract visitors during the five-day festivities beginning October 17.
Moving beyond traditional decorations, Kunjaban Sporting Union has opted for an unusual concept featuring lakhs of discarded glass pieces. Artist Tapas Paul from Siliguri, West Bengal, is creating the installation using broken glass arranged within iron frames and enhanced by glittering illumination.
The project is intended to convey a message that even broken things can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful. Paul said the concept draws a parallel between discarded glass and shattered hopes, emphasising that setbacks can lead to new beginnings. Puja committee president Sukanta Bhattacharjee said approximately Rs 40 lakh had been allocated for the celebration.
At Aikatan Yuba Sangstha, technology will take centre stage through an elaborate 3D projection show. Committee secretary Dip Dasgupta said the 10-minute presentation would portray Goddess Durga defeating demons and Lord Shiva performing his cosmic dance, symbolising creation and destruction.
Shivnagar Modern Club, meanwhile, has chosen to celebrate Tripura’s architectural and cultural identity. Its pandal will feature 18 iconic structures from across the state, including Ujjayanta Palace, Neer Mahal, the Unakoti archaeological site, the Tripura Sundari Temple and Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.
Club president Pradip Kumar Ghosh said the initiative was designed to introduce visitors, particularly younger generations, to Tripura’s rich heritage and important landmarks through an engaging display.
A glimpse of Rajasthan’s royal traditions will be available at Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Club, which plans to recreate the appearance of a royal palace. Club spokesperson Pradip Dey said a cultural troupe from Jaipur would perform in traditional costumes using regional musical instruments, adding a distinct cultural dimension to the celebrations.
The varied concepts reflect the growing emphasis on thematic presentations at Agartala’s community pujas, where organisers are seeking to combine artistic expression, cultural education and entertainment.
Durga Puja, the biggest festival in Tripura, will be celebrated from October 17 to 21, with the themed pandals expected to draw large crowds of devotees and visitors.
