Delhi Court grants Amir Shokeen five-day police custody into Tripura youth abuse case

Date:

Agartala, 24th October 2026 : Delhi Police is preparing to take social media content creator Amir Shokeen to Ahmedabad after a court granted five days of police custody in a case involving alleged racial harassment and humiliation of a youth from Tripura. Investigators suspect that several other individuals may have participated in the incident and are working to establish their identities.

Shokeen was arrested on Thursday after Delhi Police initiated action on its own following the circulation of a video that allegedly showed a Tripura youth being subjected to racial remarks and degrading treatment. The footage has since triggered widespread concern and demands for strict action against those responsible.

Police sources said the incident was allegedly filmed in Ahmedabad approximately a month before the video surfaced online. Investigators are examining the possible involvement of seven to eight people. Shokeen’s presence in Ahmedabad is expected to assist the police in identifying the other suspects and advancing the investigation.

The case is being investigated by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police following communication from the Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER). Officials are scrutinising both the alleged incident and the digital trail associated with the video’s recording and circulation.

The development has prompted reactions from political leaders, with Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju assuring that those found responsible would face action. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the state’s Director General of Police to maintain coordination with Delhi Police to facilitate the investigation.

The Tripura Students Forum Delhi (TSFD) has separately pressed for a fair and thorough inquiry. In a complaint submitted to the Joint Commissioner of Police (SPUNER), the organisation alleged that the footage captured the racial targeting and humiliation of a young man from Tripura.

The forum has called for the preservation of all relevant digital material, including the original recording, metadata, social media account details and upload records, arguing that these could prove crucial in establishing the sequence of events and identifying those involved.

The investigation has once again highlighted concerns over alleged racial discrimination faced by people from Northeast India outside the region. Police are continuing efforts to establish individual responsibility and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
