Agartala, 27th October 2026 : Political tension has gripped Madhupur following an alleged attack on Congress youth leader Samir Sarkar of Kamalasagar. The state Congress unit has demanded the immediate arrest of the two accused and a fair investigation into the incident.
According to allegations, Sarkar was assaulted with sharp weapons on October 22 while attending an orchestra performance near Madhupur Play Centre with his family. He was reportedly attacked when he briefly stepped away to visit a nearby shop. The accused, allegedly associated with the BJP, also threatened to kill him and dispose of his body in a sack, according to his associates.
Local residents intervened after the incident, and Sarkar was taken to Madhupur Primary Health Centre with the assistance of locals and police. Following initial treatment, his condition reportedly deteriorated, prompting his transfer to Hapania Hospital.
The incident has triggered allegations of police inaction. Sarkar reportedly approached Madhupur Police Station seeking legal action against the attackers, but his associates alleged that the police refused to register a case. The two accused are reportedly still at large.
Against this backdrop, a state Congress delegation visited Madhupur Police Station on Tuesday at around 2 pm and submitted a deputation to Officer-in-Charge Ujjal Chowdhury, demanding immediate action. The delegation called for a thorough and impartial investigation, proper recording of the complainant’s statement and the swift arrest of both accused.
The delegation included State Congress Committee member and advocate Nigmananda Goswami, State Youth Congress General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, Kamalasagar Block Congress President Subhash Laskar, State Youth Congress Vice-President Titu Ahmed and former Kamalasagar Youth Congress President Nantu Sarkar.
Congress leaders urged the police to treat the allegations seriously and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. They also stated that a deadline had been set for the police to take prompt action in the matter.
