CM Dr Manik Saha interacts with 51 AMC corporators ahead of civic polls

Date:

Agartala, 27th October 2026 : With the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections approaching, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha held an interactive meeting with all 51 corporators at the corporation’s conference hall, appreciating their efforts in urban development while leaving the question of the BJP’s mayoral candidate to the party’s internal decision-making process.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Saha described the interaction as a courtesy visit, explaining that he had wanted to meet the corporators since assuming the office of Chief Minister. As their five-year term has concluded, he considered it an appropriate opportunity to interact with them and discuss various issues.

Recalling his earlier association with the corporation, Saha said that during his tenure as BJP state president, he had personally escorted the Mayor to his chair after the oath-taking ceremony.

The Chief Minister praised Mayor Dipak Majumder for his involvement in the city’s development, highlighting his regular visits to all 51 wards and monitoring of local problems. He also acknowledged the collective contribution of the Mayor’s team.

Saha, however, avoided confirming whether Majumder would lead the party in the upcoming civic polls. He maintained that candidate selection and organisational responsibilities would be decided according to the BJP’s established procedures.

“Elections will come and go. One person may step down and another may take their place, or someone may continue in the same position. Everyone will act according to the party’s decisions,” he said, stressing the importance of organisational discipline over individual positions.

Citing his own experience as an in-charge of a prishtha pramukh unit, Saha said he had willingly accepted grassroots responsibilities.

Assessing the corporation’s performance, he claimed that Agartala had undergone significant changes in cleanliness and civic management. He credited the AMC’s collective efforts for the improvements, adding that visitors frequently appreciated the city’s well-maintained surroundings.
