Tripura MLA Ranjit Debbarma Alleges Bias in Security Arrangements, Seeks Governor’s Intervention

Date:

Agartala, 27th October 2026 : Raising concerns over his personal safety, Tipra Motha legislator Ranjit Debbarma has sought the intervention of Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, accusing the state’s security administration of discriminatory practices and demanding action against SP (Security) Amitabha Paul.

In a letter dated October 27, the MLA from the 24-Ramchandraghat Assembly Constituency alleged that repeated changes to his security detail had left him without Personal Security Officers (PSOs) for several days. He claimed that the situation was particularly concerning given the remote and hilly nature of his constituency.

According to Debbarma’s representation, his PSO, Sukesh Debbarma, was withdrawn on October 10 without prior information. The legislator said he submitted a complaint on October 13, requesting an impartial examination of the matter.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the response from the SP Security office, Debbarma stated that he surrendered his two remaining PSOs on October 23 at around 3 pm as a mark of protest, asking them to report to the concerned authority. He alleged that he had received no security cover since that day.

The MLA accused SP Security Amitabha Paul of acting in a partisan manner and alleged that the handling of his security arrangements was intended to put him under psychological pressure. He also questioned the repeated withdrawal and transfer of personnel, claiming that no complaints had been raised against the deployed security staff by either him or the department.

Debbarma’s letter also raised concerns about the alleged absence of a consistent transfer policy within the security wing. He claimed that some police personnel had continued to serve with VIPs and VVIPs for years, in certain cases extending to eight to ten years, while others were allegedly denied comparable opportunities and facilities.

The legislator further referred to past incidents involving the deaths of former MLAs Parimal Saha, Madhusudhan alias Bhola Saha, Gautam Datta and former minister Bimal Sinha. Citing these cases, he stressed the importance of impartiality and vigilance in security-related decisions, alleging that negligence and bias could have serious consequences.

In his appeal, Debbarma called upon the Governor to take appropriate action against the SP Security over the allegations of partiality, communal bias and financial corruption. The claims remain allegations made by the MLA, and no response from the officer concerned or the police administration was provided in the information accompanying the report.

The Governor’s Secretariat at Lok Bhavan, Agartala, officially received the letter on October 27, as indicated by the receipt stamp on the document.
