BJP steps up ULB poll preparation, plans statewide outreach campaign, hold meetings

Date:

Agartala, 27th October 2026 : With the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections on the horizon, the Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun sharpening its political and organisational strategy, placing emphasis on the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) polls and a proposed statewide public outreach campaign on issues the party believes are being misrepresented by the opposition.

The strategy was discussed at a high-level organisational meeting held at State guest house chaired by Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha. BJP National General Secretary and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, state president Abhishek Debroy, General Secretary (Organisation) Ravindra Raju, Tripura in-charge Mriganka Deo Barman, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and presidents of the party’s various wings attended the meeting.

The discussions covered election planning, organisational responsibilities and the implementation of programmes proposed by the party’s central leadership. The meeting also sought to coordinate the activities of state-level leaders and different organisational wings ahead of the upcoming electoral exercise.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the central leadership had issued directions on organisational matters, along with instructions on their implementation. According to him, responsibilities had been assigned to party leaders, and discussions were held on strengthening the organisation and preparing for the local body elections.

MP Biplab Kumar Deb said the meeting had two principal agendas: preparing for the AMC elections and carrying out seven nationwide programmes announced by the BJP. He indicated that the party would take its campaign beyond organisational meetings through a series of public-facing activities.

Accusing opposition forces of attempting to weaken democratic institutions and disturb the country’s social and political stability, Deb said the BJP intended to highlight what it described as efforts to spread misinformation and create unrest.

The proposed campaign will include foot marches, press conferences and interactions with various sections of society, including students and young people. Deb said the meeting had discussed the structure and implementation of these programmes, while details of the schedule would be announced by the state leadership later.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Debroy outlined the party’s position on the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Criticising the opposition’s campaign against the exercise, he argued that similar revision processes had taken place under previous Congress governments.

Debroy accused opposition parties of presenting misleading information about the issue and said the BJP would reach out to voters to explain its position.

The meeting signals the Tripura BJP’s intention to pursue two parallel political priorities: strengthening its ground-level organisation ahead of the municipal elections and expanding its public outreach on national and electoral issues. The party is expected to announce further details of its proposed programmes in the coming days.
