Agartala, 27th October 2026 : Airfares on the Agartala–Kolkata route have skyrocketed amid the ongoing holiday rush, with flight tickets from October 28 to October 31 reportedly costing around ₹18,000 per passenger. The steep rise in fares has sparked widespread concern among travellers, particularly patients requiring urgent medical treatment in Kolkata.
According to a local travel agency owner, most of the affordable flight tickets have already been sold out due to heavy holiday demand, leaving passengers with limited options at exorbitant prices.
The situation has become particularly alarming for patients who depend on Kolkata’s specialised hospitals for advanced medical treatment. For families facing medical emergencies, paying ₹18,000 per passenger for a one-way journey could pose a serious financial burden, potentially delaying critical treatment.
Kolkata remains one of the most important destinations for people from Tripura seeking healthcare, education, business and other essential services. The sharp increase in airfares has once again highlighted the need for adequate and affordable air connectivity between the two cities.
Amid growing public concern, residents have urged the Tripura government to immediately intervene and take up the issue with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and airline operators. They have demanded additional flights on the Agartala–Kolkata route to accommodate the increased passenger demand and bring down ticket prices.
Passengers have also appealed to the authorities to ensure that people travelling for medical emergencies are not forced to suffer due to excessive airfares and limited seat availability.
The situation has raised fresh questions over whether existing flight services are sufficient to meet Tripura’s growing travel requirements, particularly during festivals and peak holiday seasons.
