Agartala, 28th October 2026 : Despite the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure safe drinking water for every household, around ten families in Debbarma Para of Marachhara have allegedly been deprived of a regular water supply for nearly a year, triggering concern among local residents.
The affected families live in Ward No. 5 of Marachhara Gram Panchayat under Durgachoumuhani RD Block. According to villagers, although taps were installed near Marachhara market under the government’s water supply initiative, water has not flowed through them for a prolonged period.
Residents said the prolonged disruption has made it difficult for the affected households to meet their daily water requirements, including drinking, cooking, bathing and other essential domestic activities. Women, in particular, are facing additional hardship as families struggle to arrange water from alternative sources.
Villagers alleged that despite the problem persisting for almost a year, no permanent solution has been found. The situation has also raised questions about the effectiveness of the water supply system, as the installation of household taps has failed to ensure access to the essential service.
Local residents have urged the concerned department and the administration to conduct an immediate inspection and identify the cause of the disruption. They suspect that pipeline damage or other technical issues may be responsible for the failure of the water supply, although the exact cause remains unclear.
Demanding urgent intervention, the villagers called for necessary repairs and the restoration of a regular water supply to all affected households.
For the ten families of Debbarma Para, the demand is simple: access to drinking water must be ensured in practice, not merely through the installation of taps.
