Agartala, 28th October 2026 : The Tipra Motha Party has not yet decided whether to contest the upcoming elections to municipal corporations, municipal councils and town panchayats, as its senior leadership remains engaged in discussions on the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and the next course of action following the recent elections.
Minister of State and senior Tipra Motha leader Brishaketu Debbarma said the meeting of the party’s top leadership in Agartala primarily focused on securing the fulfilment of commitments made by the Central government under the accord, along with the swearing-in of newly elected representatives.
According to Debbarma, the leadership is examining when the assurances given by the Centre will be translated into action and how the rights promised under the agreement can be implemented.
“Our main concern is the implementation of the Tipra Motha accord. We are discussing when the commitments made by the Central government and its leadership will be fulfilled. Alongside this, we are considering our future strategy, the swearing-in of the newly elected representatives and the steps required to ensure the implementation of our rights,” he said.
The possibility of participating in the forthcoming urban local body elections also figured among the issues under consideration. However, the party has refrained from making any commitment regarding its electoral plans.
Debbarma said the leadership would require further deliberations before taking a final call, pointing out that the official election notification had not yet been issued.
“No final decision can be taken at this stage. We are still discussing the matter, and the party will communicate its position after the elections are officially announced,” he said.
He also clarified that the present round of discussions had remained confined to the implementation of the accord and the swearing-in arrangements for those elected in the recent polls. No further details were disclosed about the party’s broader political plans.
The outcome of the leadership discussions will determine the party’s next steps on the civic elections once the official poll schedule is announced.
