Agartala, 30th October 2026 : Several TET-II-qualified job seekers sustained minor injuries following a scuffle with police personnel during a protest outside Shiksha Bhavan, the Education Department headquarters, on Friday. The protesters were demanding immediate recruitment of the remaining 736 candidates who had qualified in the Teacher Eligibility Test-II (TET-II).
According to reports, the job seekers assembled in front of the Education Department building and insisted that the government announce a recruitment process for all remaining qualified candidates. Although the government has recently completed the recruitment of more than 700 candidates, the remaining 736 aspirants are still awaiting appointments.
Following information about the protest, Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruba Nath, the DCM and a police contingent from West Agartala Police Station reached the spot. Police personnel asked the protesters to disperse and return home. However, the job seekers refused to withdraw their agitation, maintaining that they would continue their protest until the government announced a concrete recruitment decision.
As the protesters remained firm in their demand, police decided to detain them and shift them to a temporary camp. During the process of moving the protesters into police vehicles, several job seekers reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, a woman protester, who is also a homemaker, reportedly fell ill while being taken into a police vehicle. She experienced breathing difficulties and was immediately removed from the police bus before being rushed to IGM Hospital for medical attention.
Some protesters alleged that police personnel had kicked certain job seekers during the detention process. However, no other major incident of aggressive behaviour by police personnel was reported at the scene.
The detained protesters were subsequently taken to a temporary camp at the Arundhatinagar Police Grounds.
The agitation once again brought the unresolved demand for the appointment of the remaining TET-II-qualified candidates into focus, with the aspirants seeking an early decision from the state government.
