Agartala, 31st October 2026 : Tripura Pradesh BJP President and MLA Abhishek Debroy on Saturday launched a strong offensive against the Congress and CPI(M), claiming that people had already rejected both parties and would not give them another opportunity to govern the state. Addressing a gathering during the BJP’s ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ Padayatra in Agartala, he also expressed confidence that the BJP would remain in power in Tripura until 2047.
Taking aim at the opposition’s political understanding, Debroy questioned the Congress-CPI(M) alliance, alleging that the two parties had come together despite having contrasting ideological positions. He referred to reactions on social media, claiming that ordinary people were also questioning the apparent contradictions between the political slogans and positions of the two parties.
Recalling the CPI(M)’s 25-year rule in Tripura and the Congress-led coalition government’s tenure, Debroy said neither party could expect to regain the confidence of voters. He alleged that the previous Left regime had subjected people to prolonged oppression and accused it of failing to ensure women’s safety.
Highlighting the BJP’s organisational philosophy, the state president said the party did not believe in a leader-centric or boss-driven culture. According to him, every member was a party worker whose primary responsibility was to remain connected with the public.
“We are karyakartas, not leaders. We work with the people, stay among them and try to earn their support through service. In a democracy, the people are our greatest strength and must always remain our priority,” Debroy said.
He also credited the BJP with receiving support from women across different sections of society, asserting that the participation of mothers and sisters in party programmes reflected their confidence in the organisation.
The BJP leader also defended the Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls, questioning the opposition’s objections to the exercise. He claimed that electoral roll revisions had taken place 12 times, with 10 such exercises conducted during the periods when the Congress and CPI(M) were in power at the Centre or in the state. He questioned why the opposition was now raising objections over the process, asking whether the names of deceased voters and those who had permanently shifted elsewhere should continue to remain on the rolls.
Debroy further criticised opposition leaders for targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the issue had been raised because the opposition lacked substantial matters to take up with the public.
He also accused Congress and CPI(M) leaders of attempting to exert pressure on police personnel and government officials through their statements and political activities. He alleged that intimidating the administration had become a recurring feature of opposition politics.
Referring to the large gathering at Saturday’s Padayatra, Debroy said people from different sections, including youth, women, intellectuals and cultural personalities, had joined the programme. He urged those who had not yet participated to come forward and strengthen the demonstration.
Concluding his address, he appealed to BJP workers to remain united and maintain close contact with the public. He also referred to opposition leaders Manik Sarkar, Jitendra Chaudhury, Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Kumar Saha, saying his remarks were made with a sense of responsibility and humility rather than arrogance.
