BJP workers accuse Baptu of firing at party activists in Khayerpur

Date:

Agartala, 31st October 2026 : Tension gripped the Khayerpur area on Saturday evening following allegations that Pradesh Congress leader Baptu Chakraborty opened fire at BJP workers, triggering a confrontation between the two sides. BJP activists demanded strict action against the Congress leader, accusing him of resorting to violence and firing multiple rounds during the incident.

According to BJP workers, the incident took place after several party activists returned to the area following their participation in a rally in Agartala. Some of them reportedly went to a local shop, where an altercation subsequently broke out. BJP activists alleged that when they went to confront those involved, some Congress workers attempted to escape through the rear exit of the premises.

A BJP worker, while describing the incident, alleged that Baptu Chakraborty was responsible for opening fire. “This Baptu Chakraborty, a criminal gunman, opened fire on our party workers. The administration must ensure that he receives appropriate punishment. He was previously a miscreant associated with the CPM. Several other Congress miscreants were also present, but they managed to escape through the back,” the worker alleged.

The BJP activist further claimed that Chakraborty handed over the firearm to an individual identified as Liton before the situation escalated. “He handed the gun to Liton. Four rounds were fired,” he alleged, as other party workers raised slogans demanding action.

Another BJP worker narrated a detailed account of the confrontation, claiming that the situation turned violent when they entered the premises in search of their fellow party activists. According to his account, the occupants had bolted the doors and attempted to escape through another exit. He alleged that the BJP workers forced open a locked door and subsequently faced resistance from those inside.

The worker further claimed that a woman was brought out during the confrontation and that she was carrying a dao (machete). He alleged that shots were fired as the BJP workers attempted to retreat. “We stopped advancing after the firing. Even the police personnel accompanying us ran when the shots were fired. Later, the police arrived, and we showed them the persons involved,” he said.

He also raised questions over the firearm recovered by police, claiming that the weapon used in the shooting might have been removed and replaced with a replica. According to him, a woman present at the spot had told him that the original firearm had been taken away and a fake weapon left behind.

Meanwhile, police reportedly recovered a pistol from a room inside the premises. However, investigators are examining whether the recovered weapon is a functional firearm or merely a replica.
