Clash erupts between BSF and villagers at Ashabari; Three personnel, several protesters injured

Date:

Agartala, 2nd November 2026 : Tension gripped Ashabari under Kalamchoura police station following a violent confrontation between BSF personnel and local residents on Monday morning, leaving three BSF jawans and several protesters injured.

The incident reportedly took place around 10 am near Natun Bazar, adjacent to Ashabari Gram Panchayat. According to local sources, trouble began after BSF personnel allegedly detained Hefzur Rahman, son of Shahajan Miah, on suspicion while he was clearing vegetation in the area. Residents alleged that he was assaulted while in custody, resulting in a fractured leg.

The incident triggered anger among villagers, who subsequently blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road near Natun Bazar, demanding accountability.

The situation took a violent turn when a Bolero belonging to the BSF’s 49th Battalion, bearing registration number TR-01-AL-1051, approached the blockade while travelling from Rahimpur towards Boxanagar. The vehicle reportedly carried Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar and jawan Manjit.

Amid the escalating confrontation, the agitated protesters allegedly attacked the vehicle’s occupants with sticks and bamboo poles, injuring all three BSF personnel.

Personnel from the Ashabari BSF Border Outpost and Kalamchoura police rushed to the spot and intervened to bring the situation under control.

The injured BSF personnel were first taken to Boxanagar Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to Hapania Hospital for advanced medical care.

Sources said complaints have been lodged by both sides at Kalamchoura police station. Senior BSF officials also visited the area following the incident and initiated an investigation.

Meanwhile, tension continues to prevail in Ashabari. The circumstances leading to the confrontation, including the allegations of assault and the subsequent attack on BSF personnel, are expected to be established through the ongoing investigation.
